5 Ways to Improve Knee Health

Knees are tricky. They’re part of your body you don’t think about too much until they’re yelling at you. Then it’s all you can think about. Because much like your feet, you can’t do much without them.

Walking = OUCH!  Standing up = YIKES!  Sitting down = GROAN!

Sudden shift of your weight = SCREECHING ALARMS SOUND!

The thing about knees is...they’re kind of passive at taking the load of our torso through our pelvis down through our feet. And if they’re just a little off their optimal placement… you feel it. And not usually in a good way.

Here are 5 things to do to get your knees in optimal shape.

  1. Strengthen your upper and lower leg muscles. Work on your hamstrings, quadriceps, gluteus muscles, hip flexors and psoas.

  2. Stretch your leg muscles. Try incorporating Pilates and Yoga into your stretching routine.

  3. Mix up your exercise routine. Try to avoid repetitive stress on your knees.

  4. Choose low-impact exercises to protect the cartilage in your knees. Again we recommend Pilates.

  5. Stay active every day. Motion is lotion and staying physically active helps prevent stiffness and muscle atrophy. Sign up HERE to get Pilates any time

And this goes without saying, if the pain is chronic or the knee is swollen see a medical professional right away.
